Why does one or more people being gay affect the shape of society? During the time period of the 1950’s and 1960’s people who were gay had to deal with many consequences and were not equal to straight people. Gay Americans faced a legal system. A bar called Stonewall Inn was raided by the police. Finally, only a few organizations allowed gay people.
In the 1950’s and 1960’s Gay Americans faced a legal system. A legal system that they faced was not being able to marry each other or being able to have the same rights as straight people. America is supposed to be “The land of the free” so why couldn't people love who they wanted to love even if its the same sex? Imagine not being able to love someone because they were the same sex as you because its against the law. Wouldn't that change your life forever?
On June 28,1969, police raided took place at the Stonewall Inn. The Stonewall Inn was a bar where all the gay people hung out. This event is one of the most important events that lead to the Gay Rights Movement. The Stonewall Inn is located in New York, New York and is still for gay people. The police raided the Inn just because it was a gay bar. In 1966 the Mafia took over and created it a gay bar.
The question still lingers, why does someone being gay affect the shape of a society. It should not, only your actions should affect a society not everyone elses. By someone loving someone of the same sex shouldn't make you see them different. To me love is love and thats it nothing can change that. As long as you're happy, I'm happy for you!
