July 27th, 1969 - An activist named Marty Robinson spoke to a crows before the big march they were going to have involving the support of gay rights.
June 28th, 1969- The police had raided a popular an unlicensed gay bar called the Stonehill Inn which was located in New York City’s Greenwich Village.
June 27-28th, 1970- First year anniversary of the Stonewall riots which took place in 4 major cities which were New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Illinois.
1973- They no longer considered homosexuality as a mental disorder. They believed that if you were homosexual that you had a mental disorder.
November 27th, 1978- The first openly gay man who was elected office which was Harvey Milk had been assassinated by their former supervisor Dan White.
1981- Gay advocacy groups had come together to form a protest towards the government to say that just because you’re gay doesn’t mean you have AIDS. They were wrongfully assumed as having AIDS since they were gay.
May 30th, 1987- Congressmen Rep. Barney Frank comes out openly saying he’s gay. Once he confessed that he was gay he married his partner Jim Ready twenty five years later.
1993- President Bill Clinton executes a policy, known as “don’t ask don’t tell,” which prevents gays from openly saying their gay while serving in the military.
April 30th, 1997- A television host named Ellen DeGeneres came out and openly confessed on her television show that she’s gay. On the other hand, other celebrities who are gay feel as if it’s unnecessary to announce their sexual orientation.
October 12th,1998- Matthew Shephard, a 21-year old college student was tied to a split -rail fence outside of Laramie Wyoming by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. Less than a week later after the attack, he unfortunately died.
2000- The Boy Scouts of America had banned gay Scouts and leaders to become members of their organization. Due to Boy Scouts of America being a private organization they have the right to ban gay members into their group.
